Nightingale Primary School takes seriously its responsibility to protect and safeguard the children in its care and has updated this policy to meet the requirements within updated statutory guidance documents. These documents outline the responsibilities of schools, colleges, independent schools, academies and free schools (by virtue of their funding agreement) in carrying out their duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by ensuring that “mechanisms are in place to assist staff to understand and discharge their roles and responsibilities”.
The school will support the pupils in their understanding of staying safe when using new technology (in accordance with the DfE guidance published in June 2019 ‘Teaching online safety in schools’). Pupils will be supported in their understanding of personal safety through the broad curricular offer and the PSHE curriculum. (Note: The teaching of Relationships Education (primary), Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education (secondary) is encouraged from September 2019 but will be compulsory from 2020).
