In Team Rutherford we have the following adults:

Mr Charlie Rutherford, class teacher and Ms Fatima Hussain, teaching assistant

Topic: Blue Abyss

Literacy

Our core text for this topic is Lord of the Flies by William Golding. With ideas on the nature of humanity that are deeper than the ocean itself, Golding was awarded a Nobel Prize for his writing in 1983. We will be writing about how the children cope on the island with no adults around and then making balanced arguments as to which tribe we’d join if we were on the island.

Maths

This term we will be looking at problems involving mass, volume, length, area and geometry.

Science

We will be continuing our investigations into how electricity works looking at:

  • Circuits - series circuits and their symbols
  • Safety - how to respect electricity and use it safely
  • History - how has electricity been used to enrich our lives?

We will then move onto looking at living things in their habitats including:

  • How living things can be grouped differently.
  • Different eco systems around the world.
  • The impact man has on other living things and the environment.

Humanities

Could the Titanic have been saved?

This term we will be investigating the tragic sinking of the Titanic and deciding if the disaster could have been avoided or not.

Was anybody to blame?

Computing

We will be building a model bathyscaphe (undersea submersible) using Lego WeDo. We will then program it to react to it's environment.
