Special Educational Needs

Nightingale Primary School has a special educational needs (SEN) policy which can be viewed by clicking here. The school follows the SEN Code of Practice of 2014 for identifying and assessing special educational needs. It is recognised that during a child's school career s/he may experience difficulty in a particular area for a variety of reasons. A group of experienced teachers meet regularly to review the classes and identify any children with special needs. Parents/carers are consulted as soon as a need is identified.

The situation is monitored and additional support is sought when appropriate. Provision is made in school for a teacher or teaching assistant to work alongside individual children in the classroom or in small groups when appropriate. The SENDCo, Ms June Wilson, oversees the support given in school and enlists the aid of outside agencies when necessary. Parents/carers are consulted and involved at all stages and their views are taken into full consideration.
