SEND Spring 2015

SEND (June Wilson)

There are currently 47 children without statements on the SEN register which is 20% of the school population. This is around the national average (17.9%) There is one child in the school with a statement of need, which is currently being transferred to an EHCP. The transfer will be completed along with their secondary transfer in March.

Five children are attending play therapy at the Toy Library; this has made an impact, especially with the current children’s social and communication development. This service is due to lose its funding in March and negotiations are being carried out for Nightingale to be involved in a project based at the GTTLA to allow the children to continue their visits.

Our new speech and language therapist from Blossom Tree has been busy and has assessed a number of children.  Our educational psychologist John Hepburn has also assessed children on the register and the caseload has decreased.

Four of the teaching assistants have been on STEPs training this term; this will enable them to carry out the interventions effectively. Four children are currently receiving their one to one programmes and there are four more referred and awaiting assessment.

The English interventions we are currently delivering are, Toe by Toe, Read, Write Inc. and Fischer Family Trust.  The maths interventions are Power of 2 and Plus 1.

The APS for these programmes are listed in the table below.
